First build...big problems..i think.

Post by clw1985 on Sat Apr 24, 2010 12:29 pm

Ok, here's what I have. skyhawk 66 cc, cns carb, and i ride a schwinn frontier... Now my preemptive against questions that may come up..I'm breaking this thing in by the book. I'm using 93 shell octane, along with royal purple 2 cycle 20:1.

here's the symptoms;
No power, it runs, but if i stop pedaling it will lose power until it dies which is usually a few seconds.
I will ride up to about 8 mph, engage the clutch...engine will start.. but will not deliver any power.

Things I have done to remedy it. Well, the initial thing I did was check all the basics. Spark plug check, fine. Intake fine, chain fine, exhaust fine, cylinder head...questionable. I notice that some black crap comes out of one of the cylinder head bolts. not much but it's there. So once i checked all that stuff I thought maybe i should call the company I bought it from. spookytoothcycles.com

So I called, I got some one that knew a tiny bit but not much, he said take pink tube off cns carb, take in idle screw all the way, back out air/fuel screw about 3 turns. I did all that. Same issue. I started to micro tune the air/fuel screw with no luck. So, i thought hmmm...i'll replace the stock carb on it. I did, same problem.

Here's the thing, last night it ran great. It idled a bit high but i planned on adjusting that in the day light. I rode it earlier today, it did fine...but then this suddenly started and i don't know what to do.

Also, when it was running....and I'd get it up to about 11 and I'd pedal a bit there was really no resistance to the pedaling. Now however when its running...or what ever its doing when I pedal it isn't very easy.

If you have any idea what my issue is please let me know, I'm about a step away from re-building the entire thing, and that just seems really odd for being 2 days old.

check the spark on the motor, the easyest way to do this is get a hose clamp and a smaller jumper cable clamp, put one part of the hose clamp on the jumper cable clamps handle and the other part of the hose clamp on the threads of the spark plug. (if theres rubber on the handle, take it off)Attach the coil to the spark plug and clamp the your new spark tester on the motor, ride down the street drop the clutch and look at the spark plug, if theres not spark, you either need a new cdi or coil, i doubt thats the problem though, you might have to tighten the head bolt on the motor..

let me know what happens
